BIOCONSTRUCCION EN BIOCULTURA VALENCIASustainable building poses several viable and possible solutions to the
problems generated by conventional construction, that pollute our homes and environment. During BioCultura Valencia there are several workshops and talks to bring this art of building to the visitors.
Are we aware of the great number of toxic products we may have in our homes? Modern houses are full of substances harmful to our health.
These harmful elements are so abundant in construction materials  such as cement, where heavy metals can be present. Paints and varnishes from petroleum give off volatile poisons such as xylene, ketones, toluene, etc. Also PVC materials incorporate biocidal elements  products in its production and combustion. The construction and forms of urbanism based on cement and asphalt today are a threat to life.
Sustainable building creates thrifty habitats and how two allied elements with our bodies’ health and the Earth body. Sustainable building recovers and modernizes the ancient wisdom of our ancestors already living in  healthy and environmentally friendly homes, although they did not have the facilities and appliances of nowadays. Its artisan houses were built with Earth, stone and local wood, which gave them shelter and security without gouge ecosystems.
 Why is a green home better? With houses and eco-friendly materials CO2 emissions decrease while saving money and take care of our health as well as the planet. Can you combine a healthy and natural habitat with a modern housing adapted to our needs? Eco-housing makes it possible by offering the same developments and amenities than conventional, and provide many additional advantages that will also affect economic savings: healthier materials, more energy saving through bioclimatic designs, and less environmental damage.
What do we have to take into account in sustainable construction?
To begin with: put onself in the hands of a professional who knows. They will execute a geobiological study of the ground where the house will be built to meet the possible geophysical changes that would interfere with the inhabitants’health. This way, geological faults, the aquifers that run underground water flows, emissions of radon gas and electromagnetic fields generated by wiring electrical, transformers, mobile stations will be detected.
After the analysis of the are and geographic, climatic and cultural characteristics of the place,a project adapted will be adapted to the needs of the people who will live there. There are different options in materials and design for the structure: stone, blocks and brick ceramic, clay (adobe, tapias, stabilized blocks), wood (solid or panels).
Natural isolation  materials are used in sustainable buidling, such as cork, cellulose, vegetable fibers, hemp, wood, flax, or coconut, straw and cotton fibers. The exterior walls and interior  are made with lime mortars, natural gypsum or clay. Windows, doors and beams must be of wood treated with natural products, and coming from controlled logging and forest certification.
Paints and varnishes for exterior and interior must  be also natural, breathable and non-broadcast of toxic gases. The whole building must be able to breathe, and synthetic paints are not able to do this by what they generate with moisture and condensation. Today  paints and quality ecological varnishes at an affordable price are already in the market . The electrical installation needs a good earth connection, have Spike, and should not place electrical cables in the bed’s top to prevent electrical fields. The installation of solar panels for hot water and heating is central to save money and CO2 emissions.
